About the Children's Room

The Children's Library provides access to quality early educational programming year round. This 21st century learning space for children and caregivers combines traditional library service with STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art and math), early literacy and other activities.

  • Offers customized learning experiences for early learners, elementary learners and tweens.
  • Features materials, computers, events and much more for kids through sixth grade.
  • Provides an opportunity for children to experience the enjoyment of reading and the excitement of discovering knowledge and works of the imagination by providing a wide range of materials and activities.
  • Children and their care providers learn how to make the best use of a library and how to develop skills in the use of printed and electronic media.

The Children’s Library Services Staff has the responsibility to support the process of learning to read, and to promote books and other media for children by providing special events for children, such as storytelling and activities related to the library’s services and resources.

We invite you to explore this exciting space!

Pumpkin Decorating Extravaganza

The Children’s Room is excited to announce our Pumpkin Decorating Extravaganza! Use one of the library’s free pumpkin decorating kits (it includes a miniature pumpkin, paints, a paint brush, stickers, and more!) or use your own materials to create the most frighteningly festive and seriously spooky pumpkin in all of Holyoke!
Once your monstrous masterpiece has been created, send the library a picture of it to be entered into our Pumpkin Decorating Contest! We’ll be accepting entries from October 19th through October 30th at 5pm and announcing the winners on Halloween!
This event is open to Holyoke children of all ages. To reserve a pumpkin decorating kit, please email cpope@holyokelibrary.org or call us at 413-420-8105 - we will begin distributing them on October 19th. We recommend you request one as soon as possible, as we have a limited supply!

The Children's Room now has a dinosaur themed activity kit available through our curbside pick up service, as well as the Bag o' Stuff and a nature activity kit! The first 12 dinosaur kits distributed will come with a bonus craft!

The kits are free and are first come first serve. To claim a kit or to see what we have available, please email our children's librarian Charlie at cpope@holyokelibrary.org or call the Children's Room at 413-420-8105!
