Become a Friend of the Library.

Membership is open to any individual or organization.  All are welcome to be Friends of the Library. We especially welcome VOLUNTEERS. We have a variety of projects and events that may interest you.

NOTE: We have been in transition, reorganizing from an independent nonprofit corporation (founded in 1983) to a less formal, more flexible structure that will operate under the auspices of the Holyoke Public Library Corporation (HPLC), which is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The Friends will have a voice on the HPLC Board, and act as a committee that coordinates volunteer efforts to support the library.

To join our volunteer pool, please send your contact information to this email:

or contact Nancy Kosmiersky, HPL Development Office, 413-420-8109 or
email nancy [at]

Indicate your interests, or how you'd like to help, and we'll connect you with a relevant project or put you on an list to be notified when the next opportunity occurs (e.g., annual Mini Golf fundraiser in April, or when the Library asks us to assist with outreach, advocacy, or a special event).

Until 2018, payment of annual dues ($10 or higher) WAS the way to be an official voting member of the Friends. In 2018, we stopped requesting dues payments and began working towards dissolution of the formal corporation. The Attorney General's Office of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved our petition on January 10, 2020.
If you wish to donate money, please donate directly to the Holyoke Public Library, 250 Chestnut St, Holyoke, MA 01040. Such donations are eligible for tax deduction. Send to the attention of Nancy Kosmiersky in the HPL Finance Office.  Thank you!
